¿WHAT TO DO BARICHARA?
Barichara is a picturesque town in the Department of Santander.
It is known for its hand-pointed cobblestone streets and red-roofed houses. On this page we show you some of the most emblematic places in this little town that you cannot miss.
ROYAL PATH
SANTA BÁRBARA CHAPEL
DE LA INMACULADA CONCEPCIÓN CHURCH
The Camino Real joins Barichara with Guane and was declared a National Monument in 1977 and restored under a 1988 decree. Historians say it was part of the Colombian Central-Eastern Camino Real, which connected the routes of Santafé de Bogotá, Tunja, Bucaramanga, Pamplona and Cúcuta, with forks leading to Cartagena and Venezuela.
It is in the upper part of Barichara. In front of this 18th century temple there are sculptures of a cross and oxen plowing the land. This is a good place to stop to look at the rows of Barichara's tiled roofs, which seem to stretch towards the mountains.
It is estimated that this temple, located in front of the main park, was built in 1838. The main altar, covered with gold sheets, and the ten columns that support the arches stand out.

The Barichara Cemetery is an open-air gallery. At the entrance, the replica of 'The Last Supper', by Antonio Gaudí, made by the sculptor Arsenio Plata carved in stone.
The variety of tombs show sculptural works in carved stone, tombstones with carvings of figures that recall the work that the person did in life.

The Foundation is managed by mothers who are heads of households in the area.
The Móncora de Barichara Biopark, dedicated to the recovery of the tropical dry forest and education for conservation, is a project in progress since 2009.
It is the main component of the green belt that surrounds the urban area of Barichara, a national monument.
